These practitioner workshops are particularly valued by teachers and students for their ability to demystify technical terms and guiding principles which students can sometimes find bewildering. Brecht – gestus, Alienation / verfremdung, rehearsal techniques, Epic Theatre Stanislavsky – Magic if, Objectives and Motivation, E-memory, spontaneity, Naturalism Artaud – Theatre of Cruelty, gesture, sound, movement, light, shade, rhythm, frenzy, ritual and incantation. Grotowski – Poor Theatre, concentration, discipline, the ensemble, simplicity, movement, performance as gift. One-day Practitioner Workshop – compares and contrasts how 2 or more practitioners would approach a given text. “ …informative, inspirational and great fun. No amount of formal classroom explanation can convey what the Practitioners were getting at: the students have to EXPERIENCE the theories, both for their own understanding, and to fulfil the requirements of the exam. I felt that key concepts were “unlocked” for us.” Head of Drama Ingenious! I get it now! Drama workshop participant enjoys breakthrough moment in Alienation workshop. Your Grotowski workshop was a breakthrough for her – she went on to get an A!
